Memetic Algorithms in Combinatorial Optimization. Memetic algorithms are a special class of evolutionary algorithms, which combine a local gradient search with crossover of locally optimal individuals.
Evolutionary Algorithms for Drug Design. We experiment with a special representation and new crossover and mutation operators suitable for the optimization of small proteins, incorporating amino acid similiarity matrices.

AURITUS - Automatic Meta-Data Extraction from Audio Documents. This research tool automatically finds chorus parts in audio files by segmenting these via a self-similarity matrix in the frequency domain.
VERN Vernetztes Studium Chemie (VS-C) - We participate in this large joint project funded by the BMBF to develop online chemistry learning courses with a module on artificial neural networks.
