Memetic Algorithms in Combinatorial Optimization. Memetic algorithmsare a special class of evolutionary algorithms, which combine a local gradient search with crossover of locally optimal individuals.

AmbiSense Ambient sensors for mobile robot navigation - We investigate how RFID (radio frequency identification) technology can be used for continuous inventory and self-localization by a mobile robot which is equipped with an RFID reader (P. Vorst, A. Koch, K. Bohlmann). NGFNplus NGFNplus - The main topics of the NGFNplus founded project "Functional Genomics of Parkinson's Disease" are the identification of new Parkinson genes and biomarkers as well as the comprehension of PD-related pathways. The development of analytical methods and the inference of putative regulatory networks are in the center of interest in the core facility bioinformatics (F. Büchel, A. Dräger, F. Mittag).
HepatoSys HepatoSys - The focus of the BMBF funded network is the quantitative model-basedunderstanding of the dynamic cellular processes involved inendocytosis, detoxification and regeneration of hepatocytes. We arepart of the detoxification network and focus on the modelling andsimulation of large gene regulatory networks of hepatocytes (A. Schröder, A. Dräger).
Spher4Sys Spher4Sys - A Systems biology based approach for preclinical lead compound development using an in-vivo like spheroid test system. The main goal of this BMBF funded project is to select promising leads for colon cancer therapy, not merely based on single target proteins, but rather the complex cancer phenotype which can be profiled by Reverse Phase Protein arrays.
